What is it?
The Allergy, Skin and Ear Clinic
for Pets is not a place, it is people. We are a team of trained
professionals, headed by Dr Paul Bloom, a board certified veterinary
dermatology specialist, dedicated to relieving pets from the many miseries of
skin diseases. We have the experience, training and equipment to pursue a
logical diagnosis and treatment plan..
What do we do?

Dr Bloom's specialty
training has made him an expert at treating dogs and cats. He specializes
in diagnosing and treating:
-
Skin allergies
-
Chronic and/or severe
skin or ear disease
-
Recurrent ear disease
-
Bacterial,
fungal, or parasitic skin diseases I
-
Nail and nail bed
diseases
-
Hair loss and alopecia
(baldness)
-
Autoimmune
skin diseases
The practice utilizes the latest and most advice technology and equipment available for dermatologic
use. These services include
-
Intradermal
testing (allergy testing) and immunotherapy (allergy shots)
-
Skin biopsies using local anesthesia
-
Video-otoscopy, which
allows us to examine the ear canal and eardrum very closely

Fiberoptic Video Enhanced Otoscope
With the video otoscope, a tiny camera is inserted into the
ear and the ear canal appears on a TV screen. This enables Dr. Bloom to
evaluate infected ears in much greater detail than with the standard otoscope. He can
observe the extent of the disease and whether the eardrum is damaged.
In addition to improving visualization
the machine also allows video recording of the procedure. By recording the procedure Dr Bloom is able
to permanently record any disease that is present in the ear canal or ear
drum. This allows Dr Bloom to better
evaluate and monitor treatments.
How are
we different?
Of course, we have the
equipment designed for specially designed for dermatologic use. But Dr
Bloom is not your run-of-the-mill veterinarian. Dr Bloom had to complete
specialty training and fulfill rigorous requirements to receive his specialty
certificate from the American College of Veterinary
Dermatology. These requirements included a 3 ½ year residency at MSU's
Veterinary Teaching Hospital, publishing a research project in a professional
journal, and submission of three case reports for approval by the certifying
organization, the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. Finally, he
passed a rigorous 2-day examination.
Dr Bloom has been a
Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Canine and Feline
Specialty since 1984. He is currently 1 of only 8
double-boarded veterinary dermatologists in the
USA. (American College of Veterinary Dermatology and American Board
of Veterinary Practitioners -canine and feline specialty).
What does this mean to
you, the pet owner? This means that he has the depth of training
(ACVD) as well as the breadth of training (ABVP) to be of optimum assistance to
you and your pets.
Dr Bloom also serves
as adjunct faculty for MSU's veterinary college, where he lectures veterinary
students and assists in the resident training program.
